Your Heart’s Desires: How To Stop Ignoring And Start Exploring.

The longer you wait to do something that interests you, the more likely you will experience regret. Procrastination is about waiting for the right time, person or situation to ensure success.

However, if you tell yourself you are merely exploring, there is less risk of procrastination. Opportunities, success and fulfillment come to those who follow through on what interests them. In the beginning, don’t be concerned about making any commitments.

If an idea, inspiration or drive is calling you, honor it with your attention and energy.

No foolish desires.

Trust what you are curious about. Your desires to create, attain or impact are grounded in your values and experiences. They shape who you are and your unique sense of fulfillment.

We are all different and motivated by different things. Don’t wait for others to validate what is exciting and meaningful. Respect what gets you excited by exploring it. Let it connect you more deeply to yourself and the world around you.

Time: quantity vs. quality.

For most people, there is plenty of time. The real question is, how are you spending it? We all have job and family obligations that take up our time and are part of our ultimate goals for happiness and a good life.

However, if you don’t include time to explore what’s meaningful, all the days, months, and years you have won’t matter. Your time will be full of unfulfilled potential instead of rich with the energy of discovery.

Action→ Become an explorer.

What desire is calling that you are ignoring? Leadership? A potential collaboration or partnership? A new skill or hobby? Dedicate regular time to explore it rather than worrying when the time is right.

As a result, two things will happen. You will either realize this is important and be motivated to take serious steps. Or, it will fade, along with countless other passing interests and diversions. What’s most important here is that you follow up.

  • Write down what is calling you. Be honest and courageous. This reflection is not the moment to hold back or be shy. It is for your eyes only, so don’t worry if it might seem foolish or selfish to others.
  • Do something regularly to explore it, such as reading, researching, talking to others, and journaling about it.
  • Find a quote or create a phrase that inspires you to stay true to the exploration. Repeat it aloud as many times as you need to shift the narrative in your head. Here are some examples:

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”

-Winston Churchill.

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”

-Confucius

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

-Wayne Gretzky

When you fail to give attention to your heart’s desires, you neglect an essential aspect of yourself. Neglect and procrastination are avoidance behaviors due to fear of failure or lack of motivation. Both lead to a dull and unfulfilled life.

Your potential is calling you in the form of your heart’s desire. Explore the call. You’ve got little to lose and a life of potential to gain.

Until next week, take care.
